A person may think their own ways are right, but the LORD weighs the heart. Proverbs 21:2
This verse. Wow. This verse. Use this verse to reflect on your heart. I have learned, it has taken a while and I sometimes I still fail at this, that if I have to second-guess myself in an action I’m doing then it’s best to let it lie. You know why? That gut reaction, when you are in the WORD and you are staying close to God, that gut reaction is the Holy Spirit. If I have to convince myself it’s right but there is still a lingering doubt, 90 percent of the time I best not do it.
A person may think their own ways are right
Yeah, we may think. Think think think. When we have to think about it…
I should go ahead and make those cookies…
I shouldn’t work out, I’ve got work to do…
I should buy that __________ it’s really not going to cost that much…
I may think my own ways are right. I can tell you this in all honesty: When left to my own choices it’s going to be messy. Really mess. I mean, Jesus knew what He was talking about in John 2:25:
for he himself knew what was in man.
But don’t worry, God doesn’t leave us left to our ways thank goodness!!
But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. 1 Corinthians 15:57
but the LORD weighs the heart.
Ya’ll, God knows our heart. It’s everywhere in Scripture. We can’t trick Him. Look at the Pharrisees. They were so mad that Jesus knew the Scripture, that He had God’s authority… Jesus called them
“Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you are like whitewashed tombs, which outwardly appear beautiful, but within are full of dead people’s bones and all uncleanness. Matthew 23:27
He knows our hearts and I’m so glad.
So I’m going to go a little deeper here. What do you do when your heart isn’t pure in a motive but the end result can be good?
I mean, I can’t help it, I innately have the selfish sin nature in my heart,
Romans 3:23: For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.
Once again, thanks be to God!!!
24 God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.”
So my challenge to you: be real with God today. Check your heart. Take some time and look at your motives. And what you find- tell God about it. Because take in this:
The God of the universe, the God who rules and is Creator, He desires to have a real relationship with you. This is not Tom and Jerry angel and devil on each side of your shoulder. This is the Holy Spirit inside you.
