31 Proverbs to Light Your Path Day 5
A gossip betrays a confidence, but a trustworthy person keeps a secret. Proverbs 11:13
Well, this is just not my favorite verse in the whole world. Because it’s just so doggone applicable and convicting.
Not a description or a verb, but a noun. A person, place, or thing….
Well, that’s just a bummer. You are either a gossip or not. Your tongue is either loose or it’s sealed.
betrays a confidence…
I actually have a lot of experience with this. God used an incident early on. Middle school I learned this lesson the hard way. And since that time I have always been extra sensitive to this issue. I was on the betrayed end of the verse and you know middle school girls.
I am very sensitive and the Holy Spirit is pretty quick to shoot that arrow of conviction to this so I have always tried to be the vault. Always. Not 100% successful all the time, but I try.
but a trustworthy person keeps a secret. Proverbs 11:13
God can make us trustworthy. Not in ourselves, but the Holy Spirit does it. Keeping a secret, not even a secret but just sharing information.
They didn’t ask you to keep it quiet. And it’s really not big news or anything, or news at all.
Yeah, those can bite you in the rear. Is that okay to say?
But being trustworthy is something God appreciates and it honors Him. It shows true character.
So, next time you are on the phone with a friend, or drinking coffee with a friend (don’t we wish), when you are tempted to share something about someone not sitting with you or on the phone with you-
just. say. no.
