God so cracks me up. Seriously. He does. Do you want to know why? Let me tell you:
This weekend I went to Haven Conference. In Atlanta GA. By myself. Like, in the car for almost 7 hours driving by myself and staying in a hotel room with a stranger I have never met.
Yes Cyndi, that’s you. After I stalked your facebook page and saw Jesus Scripture and a UK shirt I knew all was going to be okay 🙂
Can we say “Road Trip?” and Out of the Comfort Zone?
I have honestly never done this. Like ever. It was awesome. Ya’ll, I could pull over whenever I wanted and get Starbucks, and eat the whole bag of Reeses chocolates without having to strategically hide it from little people who steal it. (Just a funny note here: I was throwing away my trash today and there was the bag, literally, getting tossed. When my 4 year old saw it and I told her I ate it all, she literally started crying, moped to her bedroom, shut the door, and cried for 10 minutes. Holy cow, she gets her love of chocolate honestly 🙂
Anyway, I was kind of in a funk. Like, set my sorry rear end in a corner at the restaurant and ate supper by myself surrounded by bloggers everywhere. Ya’ll, I’m in Atlanta. In the corner of a hotel cafe, eating $15 crabcakes that had way too much of some herb.
Needless to say I needed a reality check.
Enter God, hehehehe
My phone doesn’t work good down there (Can we say GRRRRR) so my devotional wouldn’t pull up on my phone. So I go and do what any normal person would do: flip open your Bible and see where it lands.
And I get Psalms (shocker I know, since it is the largest book in the Bible),
Delight yourself in the LORD and he will give you the desires of your heart. Commit your way to the LORD; trust in him and he will do this: He will make your righteousness shine like the dawn, the justice of your cause like the noonday sun.
Okay, so right there is my attitude check. Okay, here you go God, here is my day. Take it and do with it as you please.
Ya’ll, you better hold on to your britches. Do you know what my day held? A Blog Sponsor from Glamour Farms (not to mention I am in love with them!) , a fashion show, I danced on a stage in front of 400 women, two free outfits, a “tribe” of women who encouraged me, and share this passion with me, a new bff blogging buddy (yes, this is you Beth Moore , and information beyond galore.)
Here is my tribe of women. Look at us. We were having a blast!
So, someone please slap me, that’s just day 1. Day 2 was just as crazy. Day 3 here is my devotional for it: once again, strategically (cough cough) flip open to Psalms and this is what I get:
Psalm 81:10 I am the Lord your God, who brought you up out of Egypt. Open wide your mouth and I will fill it.
Well, hello there. I’m a visual person, Open Wide Your Mouth, very flattering… hehehehhe
I then backtracked and the first of the chapter is God telling Israel to not put other things before Him. I was starting to get there, stress and exhaustion were taking over just because I have learned so so much in a short amount of time I was starting to short-circuit. All the possibilities, all the doubts, all the there is no way I can do this or how am I going to do this?
Isn’t it sneaky that just as God shows Himself we start to let self-doubt, worry, stress, and fear in. Then before you know it, BANG, you have put all these other things before God.
Love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, mind and strength. This is the first and greatest commandment.-Jesus
This is something I have to do daily, hourly, moment-by-moment.
But then it is like God says, Oh no you don’t honey. Open wide your mouth and I will fill it, but don’t you put anything before Me, no worry, no stress, no pressure, Just TRUST ME!
Okay, I get it. Boom. Drop Mic.
Haven Conference honestly was life changing for me. Not because of the tips I learned in blogging or diy-ing-which were completely amazing. But because God showed me, TRUST HIM. He is so faithful ya’ll. He cares so much about you. He really does. We just let the worries of this life drown Him out. But at Haven Conference I met so many women who encouraged me, who are on this train of life doing what God has for us. He has a path for each of us.
So where are you at? Are you stressed, are you letting the worries of the day, this life consume you? Have you lost the first and greatest commandment? This is my prayer for each of us today: that we put God right where He belongs: making His way for us. Leading us lovingly, leading us gently, leading us in paths of righteousness for His name’s sake.
