Alright. I have to share this with you. I saw something the other day that said: Your Skin Is the largest organ of your body. Take care of the skin you are IN.
This is why I have started taking care of myself. As a Mom, a lot of things about myself take the back burner when it comes to myself. Kids just need stuff, and me, alot. So moms naturally put themselves on the backburner. And I have done that forever. And I have gladly done that, and will continue to do so.
They are my mission field. They are in my home. I get to share the love of Jesus to them as part of my daily life. If that includes verbally encouraging them, or cleaning up their puke (yes, this happened last week), or ironing shirts. Mercy, they need to know how much I love them and Jesus to iron shirts with a happy heart-because that is so a stretch for me.
As I have had four kids over the past ten years, I have realized one thing:
I’m not as young as I used to be. I know. Shocker.
As a Mom of 4 in my mid-30’s let me share with you a few things that I’m sure you can identify with Mom:
Climbing up the stairs to do the laundry is a daunting task.
Putting up the laundry the day it actually gets washed AND dried in one day is a miracle.
Fixing lunch for my husband-I’ll make sure I have bread in the house…on a good day. (Yes, I’m fixing to head to the store now).
Play dates-non existent anymore. Too tired.
Laying down with kids to talk about their day is wonderful-I GET to lay down. I may or may not fall asleep. Depends how much talking they are doing (I have found that my daughter talks forever… I have no idea where she gets that from.)
Losing weight-what’s that?
Lazy days now have a new meaning. With one child we would sit outside on the back porch, go for a run, have tummy time… all the things you do with one baby. Now, with 4 kids ages 10-3, lazy means movie time. And praying there are no fights and that they actually all sit through one movie for an hour.
Ya’ll are going to laugh, but I looked in the mirror the other day and I noticed something about my arms, my upper arms in particular.
They LOOK OLD.
Oh my goodness. It doesn’t matter that I’m eating clean-well in theory most of the time, or that I’m working out or that I’m drinking water… It’s just part of life. I’m not in my 20’s anymore.
Last year at a blogging conference we were all talking about looking young. One of the girls showed us a picture of her Mom… seriously I couldn’t believe she was her Mom.
She LOOKED SO YOUNG.
Okay, how? We have all established the fact that aging is a part of life.
Her secret? TAKING CARE OF HER SKIN.
Okay, so now I have to admit, as long as I can remember I have used off-brand face wash. It’s cheap, and like I said earlier, we moms kind of just put off ourselves.
One thing I have learned: with my skin I don’t have to anymore.
My skin, I’m stuck with it until the day I die.
I wish I would have listened to the Mary Kay ladies when I was in my 20’s-take care of your skin, you are stuck with it til you die. Yeah, I went to so many Mary Kay parties, that one of the reasons I said I would never sell it.
And God laughed.
I need to take care of my skin. My skin is the first thing people see. Whether we like to admit it or not, we still do make impressions on people. And our faces are the first things people see.
I HAVE TO TAKE CARE OF IT.
Insert Mary Kay Timewise.
This is what I use. And this is what is working on me and on my mid-30’s Mom skin. And I feel like I get to pamper myself everytime I wash my face. A small thing, but one that I feel throughout the whole day.
So here is what I do:
- 3 in 1 cleanser. Dime size on my hand. I add water, make it a little sudsy, and then gently rub in circular motions all over my face and neck. Wash.
- Day or Night Solution. 1 squirt. It’s Spanx for my face. SPF for the day, vitamins A, E, and C directly on my face at night. Plus the anti aging treatment in it. Thank you Jesus.
- Moisturizer. Apply dize size in circular motions to the face.
That’s why it’s call Timewise.
It makes wise use of your time. And I think it’s wise for the price. I’ve been using the cleanser since Christmas, ya’ll I still have a ton left and I USE IT TWO TIMES A DAY. We are in September. Do you know how much money I have spent on the off-brand cleanser for my hubs? Way more than this cleanser because I have to purchase it every month!!!
The cost is $90 for the set. A cleanser that does three things, a day solution, night solution, and a moisturizer. Basically 6 products for $90 that last months plus is perfect for my skin!
Yeah, I’ll pay for that.
You want proof? Touch my face… it’s softer than a baby’s bottom. 🙂
hehehehehehe. I’m sorry I couldn’t resist.
I want to encourage you: TAKE CARE OF THE SKIN YOU ARE IN. We are stuck in it til the day we die.
And another thing: Take care of yourself. We can’t fill anyone else’s cup up when we ourselves are empty. Do something for yourself today. Even if it is to sit down for 10 minutes to read a book. Or get a coffee. We have a very important and eternal job on our hands. Our own mission is lifelong. It’s tiring, fun, sometimes exhausting, and the most important thing we will ever do.
“He who believes in Me, as the Scripture said, ‘From his innermost being will flow rivers of living water
